Overview

This mosque in St. Vital was the first in Winnipeg. It was built by the local Muslim community and first opened its doors on September 26, 1976. It was renamed Pioneer Mosque in 2016 in recognition of the central role it played in the early establishment of a Muslim community in Manitoba, as well as to commemorate the dedication and spirit of the generation of local Muslims responsible for building and developing the Winnipeg Muslim community.
